Volunteering

Volunteers at the NRC play a vital role in supporting patients during their rehabilitation journey following life-changing illness or injury.

As part of the volunteering team, you will help to create a welcoming, supportive and engaging environment, offering companionship and practical assistance that enhances patients’ wellbeing and confidence.

Volunteers will help patients to make the most of their time at the centre by supporting social interaction, encouraging independence, and enabling access to the exceptional facilities and outdoor spaces available across the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate. While some volunteering opportunities are accessible to people with a range of mobility levels, certain activities will require volunteers to be mobile and active, depending on the nature of the role.

Training and support will be provided by the member of staff responsible for the volunteer and will include an annual review by the Voluntary Services Department.

Key Role responsibilities

  1. Wayfinding – support patients, their families and visitors with wayfinding, helping them to navigate the NRC building and facilities confidently and safely.
  2. Companionship – provide friendly conversation and companionship to our patients, offering reassurance, encouragement and social interaction.
  3. Mealtime assistance – assist patients at mealtimes, helping to foster a calm and positive dining experience in line with guidance from staff.
  4. Supporting activities – engage patients in games and activities, including creative activities such as art) to support motivation, social connection and enjoyment, as well as supporting aspects of their rehabilitation journey.
  5. Gardening with patients – support patients to enjoy the horticultural garden including engaging in gardening activities and helping with the ongoing maintenance of this space.
