The NRC offers acute, specialised in-patient rehabilitation for a variety of conditions, with a focus on optimising outcomes for patients.

Patients who need specialist rehabilitation often have a range of medical needs, and at the NRC the focus is on supporting both mental and physical health.

The NRC will provide care to: 

• patients with multiple injuries requiring musculoskeletal or spinal rehabilitation 
• neurological (brain injury) patients with complex rehabilitation needs
• amputees following major trauma
• severely deconditioned patients who have muscle wastage, for example following a period on an intensive care or critical care ward, or following surgery
• patients recovering from surgery to treat complex or multiple fractured bones
• those patients needing support to manage long-term conditions

Referral information

Referrals to the National Rehabilitation Centre will only be available to appropriate inpatients in hospitals within the East Midlands.

Hospitals within NUH are able to make a referral directly through the Nervecentre EPR system. Other Trusts will be able to refer via a dedicated NRC referrals email inbox.

A Trusted Assessor will then carry out an assessment on the patient to determine their suitability for rehabilitation at the NRC. A Trusted Assessor is a senior clinician, and their assessment will inform the NRC interdisciplinary senior team to make decisions on whether the NRC is the most appropriate place for an individual.
