The NRC is located between Nottingham and Loughborough in the East Midlands. It is situated on the Stanford Hall Rehabilitation Estate (SHRE), a 350-acre parkland estate which it shares with the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) approximately 400m away.

The whole SHRE estate has been designed to promote rehabilitation, with access to outdoor rehabilitation spaces such as: tranquil gardens, a fishing lake, a hand cycle track and a pitch and putt golf course. Some patients may also be taken to the DMRC to use some facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, gait lab and virtual reality dome if appropriate.
