Current projects

All patients at the NRC will be given the opportunity to be part of the development of new treatments and to take part in research, and these opportunities will also help to attract students and researchers.

Current projects taking place at the NRC:

  • Rehab and education for 'body in the brain' following major trauma - PhD - Oscar Hutton at Loughborough University.
  • Magnetoencephalography (MEG – the measurement of magnetic fields generated by neuronal currents) in rehabilitation - PhD - Benjamin Saunders
  • Dataset Delphi study - PhD - Tom Corbet at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Patient Terminal study - Fellowship Award - Kerry Burvill at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Insight and engagement in patients with acquired brain injury - Fellowship Award - Louise Elphick at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Respiratory muscle training in the rehabilitation of incomplete spinal cord injury: a survey of UK physiotherapy perceptions - Joanne Parris at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust

Innovation, enterprise and economic growth

The NRC offers a real opportunity to innovate and drive the development of new rehabilitation products and technologies. It will be an exciting space where research and innovation in the field of rehabilitation can take effect very quickly. The nearby Defence establishment is already acquiring new knowledge through advanced facilities such as its Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN), Through collaboration with the Defence facility, universities and business, the NRC will provide a unique place to test and develop the treatments and techniques of tomorrow.
