Following traumatic injury, long-term illness or surgery, many patients can be discharged straight home from hospital with support from local community services, but for those with particularly complex needs, a period of specialist inpatient care at a rehabilitation facility is needed to significantly improve their recovery.
Clinical rehabilitation at the NRC is provided by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which is already home to the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre - the busiest trauma centre in the country, and the one with the strongest clinical outcomes - as well as other regional specialist centres such as orthopaedics, spinal and neuro surgery.
The NRC’s collaborations with its Academic Network, and with the nearby Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre will enable the sharing of best practice in rehabilitation, complementing the expertise of world-class NHS clinicians.
The NRC will also provide specialist rehabilitation advice to support community-based clinicians.
Length of stay at the NRC will vary according to individual needs, and patients will continue to be supported after discharge via outpatient and virtual clinics.
