The NRC supports the ‘Right to Rehab’ report published today highlighting the importance of good quality rehab, not only for the individual and their loved ones, but also for the UK economy.
The report, commissioned by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Acquired Brain Injury and charity UKABIF (the UK Acquired Brain Injury Forum), has found that investing in specialist rehabilitation services could save the NHS and social services nearly £20billion per year in acute care, longer term and social care costs.
We’re pleased to see that the NRC has been cited as part of the ‘positive news’ for the future, providing intensive rehabilitation to around 750 patients a year, resulting in an estimated £3.3billion in savings for the NHS and social services each year.
However, we hope that the NRC will be the beginning of something much bigger. As we know, and as recognised in today’s report, currently rehabilitation is a postcode lottery across the country.
The plan for the NRC has always been for our facility to become the ‘Hub’ in a ‘Hub and regional Spoke’ model. Therefore, we will nationally lead the Research and Innovation, and Training and Education, within the Rehabilitation Medicine field.
We hope today’s report will lead to more and more people receiving the rehabilitation that we look forward to being able to provide at the NRC when we open later this year.
The NRC will be staffed and run by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
