Last month, the NRC announced a major new collaboration with British Cycling and cycle manufacturer ICE Trikes, designed to enable patients with life-changing illness and injuries to discover a new sport and benefit their recovery journey.

As part of the collaboration, recruitment for a dedicated British Cycling Rehabilitation Coach based at the NRC has now begun.

The role has been funded by the Peter Harrison Foundation, with the support of Nottingham Hospitals Charity, and will utilise the three hand‑cycles and three adaptive trikes exclusively for patient use at the NRC which have been gifted to the centre by ICE Trikes.

The successful applicant will use cycling as a tool to support recovery, wellbeing and independence for people rebuilding their lives following life-changing injury or illness. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside clinicians, the coach will deliver personalised cycling interventions that help embed cycling into rehabilitation pathways and support long-term behaviour change.

Other aspects of the role include:

  • Deliver bespoke cycling sessions tailored to individual patient needs, abilities and rehabilitation goals.
  • Support, motivate and encourage participants to build confidence, independence and physical activity habits through cycling.
  • Work alongside NHS clinicians and rehabilitation teams to integrate cycling into patient recovery programmes.
  • Monitor participant progress and outcomes, contributing to evidence, case studies and programme development.
